About Gus

  • Microchipped: Yes
  • Declawed: No
  • Housetrained: Yes

This little blond/orange boy may look like a sleeper, but just wait til his fun gene kicks in! Gus is a lovey little guy who enjoys sitting on your lap (or chest) and just snoozing just as much as he loves chasing the “Go Cat Da Bee” toy til he’s too tired to move -- then he’ll jump right back up and see if he can get the Bee again. He is a bit more shy than his brother Jon, but not by much. As a kitten, he’s pretty close to making the cat gymnastics team: we’ve seen him do complete backflips, quarter turns, two-paw balancing acts and more all in mid-air. Yes, the saying is that cats always land on all four feet, but we’ve been able to (on occasion) get him to take a tumble after a particularly serious game of “cat and bee”.

If you haven’t seen a kitten “growl” before,- it is a sight and sound to  behold! Only when he has a toy mouse in his mouth, and only when you threaten to take it from him does he let out the tiniest of tiny little “grrrrr” sounds. And topping that, Gus has to have the most unique little meow right now too: definitely male with a touch of gravel and throatiness that  makes him sound, well, like a baby Lion!

Gus loves to be pet just about anywhere and will readily let you know how happy he is for this attention too by purring and purring and purring some more. We’ve gotten to the point where you only need walk into the room and he’ll often come running to greet you -- already purring in anticipation for the strokes and love he’s looking forward to receiving. Gus is well adjusted to lots of different people (his foster family of five readily take turns playing with him) and is becoming more used to other normal household noises and sounds (think vacuum) without freaking out. While Gus will certainly make an awesome addition to any family, if you think you might be able to take two -- consider adopting him with his brother Jon, as they really love one another: playing, sleeping, eating- doing just about everything together

13thstcats.org is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit, No-Kill Rescue Group based in San Jose.

We try our best to match our cats to the perfect homes, and match them based on their personalities, not their looks. Adoptions are not done on a first come, first serve basis, rather in the order of what homes are the right match for that particular cat
