Dandy is a loving wonderful cat but with very special needs.  She doesn't know that she is any different than other kitties and enjoys playing with her toys and eating and all the things kitties do, except she tends to do it lying down or sitting.  Dandy has a rare calcium receptor abnormality named: CYP24A1 Receptor Mutation.  This actually results in elevated calcium over time, rather than calcium that is too low.  Many kittens have calcium disorders that go into remission when they are finished growing. This condition has really not been described in cats, but it is recognized in humans.  Dandy's vet is working with the expert in the field on Calcium disorders (human and animal).  And we watch her activities to make sure she is not overdoing it and keep her nails trimmed weekly so she can't get them caught in things that would put stress on the bones as she tries to free them.
Our hope is that Dandy will be able to outgrow this issue, as she is a happy little kitty; she purrs the minute she makes eye contact with you.  Being a no-kill organization, we are going to do our best to give her a great life, however long it may be, and work towards the best outcome.  We took this kitty on when she was about 10 weeks of age (est. DOB 12/1/13), close to death due to poor attention to care.  Her person knew she had issues walking but didn't realize she wasn't eating or drinking.  We got her back on track and able to walk but noticed the limping behind, then some front leg changes, before we got with her current vet.  But Dandy's a tough little kitty and we think she has a shot at a regular life.

13thstcats.org is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit, No-Kill Rescue Group based in San Jose.

We try our best to match our cats to the perfect homes, and match them based on their personalities, not their looks. Adoptions are not done on a first come, first serve basis, rather in the order of what homes are the right match for that particular cat
