The Ballad of Henry and Gigi
Meet Henry and Gigi--two community cats born under a broken down van on the Peninsula. This bonded pair have lived their whole lives in the surrounding backyards, quietly carrying on with life in the shadows. I met them two years ago when I moved into the neighborhood and joined others caring for them. I've been committed to them ever since. Sometimes Henry nuzzles me for pets, and I look into his purely innocent eyes and I tell him everything is going to be okay, I won't let you down. It's a hard life outside for a homeless cat, even with some human help, and they bring dignity to everything they do in spite of their circumstances. They know when to trust and when to run; where to bask in the sun and where to hide from a dog.
Now times have changed for Henry and Gigi. They are now no longer welcome on the private land where they have thrived for twelve years. Suddenly the cats' world is shrinking, their safe space going away, and life is changing fast. Too fast. But my commitment to them is certain; I will not let them down. The time has come for them to move on and I will guide them to a new home. A home, a barn, a large property-there are many ways these semi-feral cats can be safe again--so please reach out if you have a refuge to offer. With love and patience, they will adjust to a new life, for Henry and Gigi have always transcended and thrived, and they will again with your help.
